Apparently PG&E just visited our founder’s solar-powered house and set up a new electric meter to keep track of energy the panels put back into the grid. This is tremendous news! Any excess electricity will now get credited to the home’s utility plan. If the solar panels continue to perform as well as they have so far, chances are that particular household won’t have to write another bill to PG&E for electricity ever again!

Hey SaveWithSunlight.com blog readers. We are excited to announce that the leased solar panels on our company founder’s home, installed by SolarCity, are officially cashflow positive! They just got their energy bill from PG&E for the month of July, and here’s how it broke down:

July 2008
Gas: $64
Electricity: $45

Compare that with the month before we went solar:

June 2008
Gas: $72
Electricity: $192

We’re only paying $120/month for the solar panels, and the FIRST MONTH of operation garnered nearly $30 in savings! As the months roll by, utility prices are just going to increase, so we’re set to save even more money per month in the future. This was definitely a sound investment.
